IDENTIFYING VOLATILE SUBSTANCES IN YOUR STORE

There are hundreds of readily available and potentially abusable volatile substances that may be purchased for the purpose of intoxication. While the two most commonly abused products are spray paint and gas lighter refills, retailers should be on the alert for the misuse of any volatile substances.

Products containing volatile substances to look out for include:

AEROSOLS

Spray paint, hairspray, deodorant, fly spray and cooking oil.

SOLVENTS AND GASES

Glues and adhesives, lighter fluid, methylated spirits, paint strippers and thinners, degreasers, nail polish remover, correction fluid, cleaning products, gasoline, butane, propane and LPG.
