"Anything with a strong odour someone will try and inhale, and there have been deaths due to taking something dangerous, cleaning products, different things."
There are hundreds of readily available and potentially abusable volatile substances that may be purchased for the purpose of intoxication. While the two most commonly abused products are spray paint and gas lighter refills, retailers should be on the alert for the misuse of any volatile substances.
Products containing volatile substances to look out for include:
Spray paint, hairspray, deodorant, fly spray and cooking oil.
Glues and adhesives, lighter fluid, methylated spirits, paint strippers and thinners, degreasers, nail polish remover, correction fluid, cleaning products, gasoline, butane, propane and LPG.
